Valentine’s Among the Vines

Graham and I haven’t celebrated Valentine’s Day for years, but when friends invited us to Township 7 Vineyards & Winery for a wine and chocolate tasting, we couldn’t say no. After all, who cares if it’s February 14, we’ll take chocolate and wine any day!

The event – now in its 10th year – included four delicious pairings held in Township 7’s brand new tasting room in Langley. Surrounded by vines and lush farmlands, this tiny winery feels like a slice of Europe.

Township 7 recently opened its new private tasting room.

I know it’s probably torturous to share the pairings with you after the fact, but you can try them at home or look forward to attending the event next year. For $15 + tax per person, it’s definitely worth it.

We started with a 2014 sauvignon blanc with sea salt and lime chocolate. This was by far my favourite. The salt and citrus in the chocolate paired beautifully with the wine.

Dark cherry chocolate and NBO is a match made in heaven.

The next station was a 2014 chardonnay with brown butter caramel chocolate. I think this was Graham’s favourite. It was a buttery and rich combination.

The third tasting was a 2012 Merlot with cinnamon chocolate or chilli chocolate. I chose the chilli chocolate, which gave the wine a fiery kick.

The final tasting was the 2013 NBO with black cherry silk chocolate – a full-bodied pairing and the perfect way to end the event.

Township 7 also threw in a photo booth for entertainment. We had some fun with props and then bought a bottle of wine and enjoyed it outside on the winery’s new patio. It was a misty day, but still a very beautiful setting.

It wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without a kissing booth.

If this post has your mouth watering, make sure to check out Township 7’s 11th annual Valentine’s Day Wine and Chocolate event next year. Go with friends like we did or go on a date. Either way, you’ll have a great time.
